I'm looking at buying a 2001 coupe in pewter with the magnesium wheels. The wheels look good because they match the pewter color. However, the wheels have some curb rash and chips. I'm contemplating on getting them fixed, fixing them myself, or just getting a used set of chrome thin spokes. Tires on them are fairly new Mich Pilots.
Questions are:
- What to use to fill in the mag chips?
- Are the tire sizes on the mags the same as the chrome spokes?
Yes the mags are 8.5 wide in the front and 9.5 in the rear, there is a wheel refinisher in the Chicago are that refinishes mags.
Sorry I can't remember their name but they do excellent work, I scraped one up pretty good and they fixed it and it balanced and ran true.
Pricey though!
I've had success fixing mag wheel curb dings and deep scratches with a product called "all-metal" which I bought at the local paint/auto store. Works like body filler only is much tougher.
