Hi everyone this week I will be receiving my HID kit that I will be installing on the stock C5 headlights. I have searched around forums for a good install guide and I have found a few but what I have not been able to find is how to get to inside the fender area under the light to mount my HID ballists. I would like to mount them there because I do not want them seen. Do I only need to remove the headlight housing covers to get down into this area? or do i need to remove something else?
Just remove the hood bumpers on both sides(2" long bolt with the rubber bumper on top-front of the hood sits on them when it's closed)-mark or measure them first so you don't have to mess with adjusting them when you put them back in.
Then you can reach in there and do what you've gotta do when you install the HID's.(manually open the headlights first)
There's a nice little "shelf" inside the front facia, just above the corner light that works just dandy to mount the ballasts to with the double stick tape.

The low beam ballasts I used the fog light bolt to secure the ballast bracket. The fog light ballasts are wire tie wrapped to the frame rail with a large 3/8" tie.
If you need more room remove the black bezel for the headlight, remove the top cover paying attention to any washers somebody may have used as spacers to level the cover out. In my case I had washers but I tossed them and used the correct method to level the cover. Anyways there are a pair of pivot bolts that are near the top rear of the head light assembly. If you remove the two pivot bolts the whole assembly will move out of your way. The nuts are locktited on the pivot bolts. Personally after removing mine a couple times I tossed them and replaced them with nylock lock nuts.
It sounds scary but it's easy just be sure to pay a bit of attention to how it came apart and you'll be fine. A retractable magnet pick up tool always seems to come in handy when I'm playing in the head light areas.
