Default 3.42 differential

I'm going to swap my 2.73 for a 3.42. Should I go with a 1-rib or a 3-rib? What should I expect to pay?

I just got a brand new zo6 3:42 from Gene Culley @ GMParts. I got in 3 business days right to my door. It's a 3 rib for strength. Price with shipping and no tax is $1404.27. You might find used but if it's a 3:42 it's probably been beat on unless you really know who you are getting it from. Call Gene, he will treat you right!! Rod

3 rib case is stronger. The Z06 differential comes with shot-peened gears.

I'm thinking about 3.42's also, however I have an auto and 3.15's now. Do you guys think I will notice the difference?

I agree. Put a new one in. That way you're not opening the door for problems, more $$$$ and down time. Good luck.

No, it wouldn't be worth the time or money . If however you're doing your own labor, then maybe I would consider. Good luck.

i bought a used 3.42, I broke mine. I paid $500 for a 39,000 mile diff. I also purchased a left hardened output shaft from dte as I plan to take mine to the track again. If you do buy one used, make sure it low mileage, if you can't find one then buy a new one. I had a high mileage one I took to the track and it lasted 2 passes and broke on the third. Also took out the tranny output shaft. Do it right.

yes. but youll notice it more with 3.73 and a stall. gas mileage goes down but the grin gets bigger and who bought a vette to go slow and worry about gas?"
