GM tranny flush service in their A4? I have almost 64k and want to get it taken care of. Any thoughts? Or will dropping the pan, changing the filter and pouring in the 5 qts with a good synthetic be enough?
I just did this yesterday from the GM dealer down in bfe Tennessee and so far so good. I bought my A4 used with just a tad over 100k miles. I didn't know the previous fluid history of the tranny so I wanted to go ahead and get it done obviously. They couldnt locate a filter anywhere in town so I just had them do the flush instead of flush then filter change.
I have put about 100 miles on it since and its shifting smoother, but not much more, it was still smooth anyway and seems to be OK.. Even took it to 158mph yesterday for the first time after that so im very happy with it right now.

While it's your car, so you can do what you want....but for those reading this post......changing the fluid on a 100k tranny, without changing the filter isn't just bad practice...it's pure nonsense.

Well it was better than not changing it at all in IMHO... I'm sure it has been doen before 100k miles when I didn't own it, it was a well taken care of car.
No problems yet....
I'll let you guys know and say you told me so if it does blow in the next 10k miles, but I'll also report back if it doesn't, im pretty optimistic honestly.

It's your gamble, and your car.....roll the dice if you like. Many owners never touch the tranny fluid in a vette, because there is no time change interval on a auto(except for specific conditions), and no time change interval on a manual whatsoever.

It's not that bad to get it flushed and change the filter! It's better all around.
At one point I did all my Solenoids in the tranny and 3 fluid and filter changes and just so I KNEW it was running clean and clear- over the years it really does build up some gunk so it is in the best interest of the tranny to do it right, right from the beginning.
With a 100,000 on your tranny mixing fluid with no filter change or a couple of filter changes is not the best and correct way to go.
If it is a time restraint i understand, but if it is not then do it the correct way.
I developed a leak from my 2000, a4 with 80,000 tranny pan this winter (gasket shrunk maybe?). I decided to get it flushed, have the gasket replaced, and the filter replaced. I bought the car a year ago, so not knowing its history, it was piece of mind as well.
It cost me $169 and I haven't had any problems (with the tranny) in the last 3,000 miles.
