I started the car today and noticed the oil pressure was a bit higher than normal (mid-high 40s). Normal driving (1200 rpm) and the oil pressure is mid 50s. A jaunt on the highway drives the oil pressure even higher (60-70psi). A stab of the throttle moves the oil pressure instantly.
With the engine off and the key on, it showed a reading of 14psi.
Is it broken or on its way out? It's definitely not pegged at 80psi like others have reported. But, it's also definitely never acted like this.
I recently seafoamed the engine and oil. I also just changed the oil last weekend.
I've searched and read all that stuff already. Just looking for a fresh opinion. I want to make sure it's busted before I go tearing apart the intake manifold (ya... I'm not cutting a hole in my car).
Yep its gone. Mine just went out as well, but I have just bought Total Performance Engineering's Oil Pressure Relocation Kit, and it looks great and not to mention if this happens again it will only take me but 5 minutes to replace the next go around. And the kit also comes with the AC Delco (Stock) Oil Pressure Sensor which is very nice. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone replacing the sensor.
You answered your own question. 14PSI with the engine not running??????????????????? Last I heard the oil pressure was not like the fuel pressure which stays up for a while after the engine is shut down.
