I cannot decide upon replacement tires for my 2000 Coupe. I replaced the rears with OEM at 13,000 miles, but now at 25,000 they all need replaced. I want a better ride than the Goodyears give me, and runflat is not a requirement. Michelin Pilots? Firehawks? BFG Force? Please help. My tires are BALD and its fixin to RAIN!!!!
I switched to the Bridgestone Potenza S03 Pole Positions in stock sizes. Took my time and researched a lot of tires. Don't know if they are the absolute best available, but they are fantastic compared to the stock tires. Much quieter ride, great handling in both dry and wet conditions.

Really like the Yokohama AVS Sport Runflats. They are great in the rain. I have a daily driver and we get the same kind of downpours here in Houston as you do in Florida and feel very comfortable with these tires.
Quieter, smoother and less expensive than the GY's too! Good luck.
Re: New Tires selection help please!! (Houston_Z_Man)
I had 275/40/17 and 315/35/17 Yokohama AVS Sports on my '99 Camaro SS and was very happy with them. They were a MUCH better tire than the GY F1s. They were quieter and had much better wet and dry traction than the F1s. The 315/35/17 Yokohamas were as sticky on the dry streets as my 275/40/17 Nitto Drag Radials. BTW, my Yokohamas were not the runflats.
BTW, I agree with Houston_Z_Man on the wet weather performance. I drove to Houston (from Dallas) in the pouring rain with those tires and had no problems with hydroplaning....although I saw a lot of other cars hydroplaning around me when I got to Houston.
Re: New Tires selection help please!! (BikerDuude)
I have 43,000 miles on my Original run flats..I have exactly 4/32 on the fronts and 3/32 on the back.. I am getting close to buying new rubber.. it's a run flat ..... non runflat question.. so I did research onn the run flats available.. and the non run flats.. the Firehawks look ugly to me they are an inch and a half narrower than the EMT's ( see contact patch at Tire rack)
EMTs are 10.3 inches wide.. Firehawks are 8.6 wide.. and they have an ugly rim bead.. The Yokahama tires are agressive looing and good in the rain .. IM told they dont last that long.. and I would not put the word Yokahama on the American Icon.. so for me The EMT's are the choice for me.. The S03 pole positions are my choice.. only because of all the comparisions Ive researched on the internet.. The Michelins pilot sports are also good but they are not worth the extra cost.almost 100 dollars a tire more..AS far as noise is concerned.. they are all noisy.. its the car not the tires.. the rear tires are a foot from your ear only insulted by two 1/8 pices of plastic.. 1) the inner wheel well, some fiber board and the rug and padding.. also if you have the windows open there is no insulation from tire noise.. All tires make noise.. listen the the tire noise of a Lexus as it passes you.. they dont hear in because they are in a well insulated car.. designed for noise suppression. our cars are designed to remove every bit of unwanted weight..they even cut the windshild thickness in half on the Z06.. So by design our cars a re fast not quiet.. IM leaning towards the EMT's again.. because i know I can get home under any situsation and dont have to worry about Bubba at midnight with his chain and his 1970 Tow Truck.. at midnight with a flat tire in the Bronx, or Camden or some other area of questionable safety.as far as handling in the rain.. I would never push my car in the rain.. and with 43000 miles, I have never felt unsaafe with the EMT.. of course IM not drag racing in the rain either..and Im not doing 120 on the clover leafs either..BTW I never let the tires get above 29 psi HOT..
