Default Driveshaft Tunnel Insulation Shield

MId America sells a "C5 Heatmaster Shield." My 97 allows a good deal of heat transfer into the interior during the hot periods of the summer. This heat seems to leak in around the center console. Has anyone installed such a shield? Was the installation difficult? Did the shield prevent heat from entering the cockpit? Is there a better/cheaper vendor to purchase such a shield from? I would appreciate any advise on this subject.

I think that the heated console is a universal problem with Corvettes. I asked a similar question and was advised to buy a "cool mat" from speedzone 24-7.com. I haven't tried it yet but, it looks as though it may be the ticket. I am not very familar with the Mid-America piece but, I do not think that it covers the entire tunnel but the top of the console tunnel only. The Mid-America device is $369.00 while the Cool Mat is only $54 for a 48"x48" piece and $27 for a 24"x48" piece. The added size of either of the Cool Mats should be ample enough to cover the tunnel sides as well. Has anyone tried either of these products?

I did the cool mat from speedzone24. You have to cut it to fit but no way would I pay Mid-America $369 for this when you can do the job for <$50.

I used aluminum tape to seal around the edges. Also fyi you have to pull the seats to do a proper job.

I did similiar insulation when I installed my ripper shifter however I used Dynomat extreme. Total cost was about $50 for the dynomat insulation and this really helped to decrease the amount of heat rising from the tunnel and into the center console. It also slightly decreased noise level. I purchased the Dynomat from mail order company called Crutchfield, they are on the web or try the 800 operator for their 800 #.

Install was very easy after console removal, simply cutting this to fit and then peeling adhesive back off and placement was it.

^^^ I was about to reply the same way

my center console is out and the "insulation" that is affixed to the bottom of the console piece is sorely lacking :mad......take the time and remove the seats and console (pretty easy) and insulate from the inside as well
