I just bought a 2000 vette and wanted to make some mods to make it faster. My mechanic is telling me to port the head, change the cams, put on a better flowing pipe, get a better heeder, convert the tranny to a six speed, put on some new intakes, and a higher lift rod and rocker. How many horsepower will I gain with this and what is a good combo to go with. I heard that edelbrock and flowmasters are good. I want to run the car in the low 10's at the track and be a real contender. :smash:
Do you want your car to maintain good streetability?
How much abuse are you willing to throw at your motor to reach your goal?
Your going to have to get very serious to get into the 10's and REAL serious to get to the low 10's.
Your gonna need basically the minimum heads/cam all the bolt ons, and a 150+ shot of nitrous to break into the 10's. And that will mean using slicks most likely.
To go further your simply going to need more displacement, and a bottom end on the motor to handle the hit of nitrous.
Alternatives to nitrous include, twin turbos, and superchargers.
Good heads and cam packages with all the boltons, naturally aspirated will get you into the 11's. But not low 11's.

I have a friend with a 2000 SS with heads/cam/intake, makes 400/404 at the wheels and runs 11.7's on slicks, he leaves the line around 2500 rpm to avoid breaking the rear end. On a 75 shot he runs high 10's consistant 11.0's, of course on a 75 shot he makes 500/600 at the wheels

I would let the mechanic know that a vette LS1 has 2-"heads"and one cam. He must be confusing it with a rice 1 head- 2 cam engine. :smash:
Save your money and buy a pro-charger, keep all your streetability. And to run in the 10's put a set of LS1 truck heads on it to lower your compression and up the boost. no one will now your not stock untill you walk away from them.
Thats one heck of a 75hp shot that puts 100 to 200 hp to the rear. I've only seen nos give higher numbers to the rear when used with a supercharger and thats because nos cools the boost 75% greater then the inercoolers makes it more efficient thus more power.
Grafield. Your asking some involved questions.
