I have a 01 Z06 with 89k. I was thinking about lowering it so i dropped the back on stock bolts last nite. It didnt really drop that much. Is is bad on any part on the car if you cut or remove bushings?? Is it the bushings under the screw?
Also how do you lower the front?? i dont get it, the screws wont move. If i was goin to remove them to put lowering ones, how do i do that. Thanx.
You have to lift the car , then you have to lift the outer end of the spring [front] with a small hydraulic jack to relieve the pressure on the lowering bolts to the lower control arm. then they should turn freely you turn them so more threads are showing above the spring. [ use a rag or something between the jack & spring] In the rear I cut off the thickest ring on the bushing at the top of bolt. & 2/3rd of the bushings in the front. Wheel wells are 26" in front & 27" in rear. Have had no problems .
I lowered my coupe a week ago and it has settled since the first day. about 3/4" but I haven't measured recently. I say drive it for a few days and think about going lower from there.

You can buy 6" grade 8 bolts at a TruValue hardware with nylon locking nuts. I think it's a little better than jumping from the 4-3/4" stock to the 7" aftermarkets, because you have no gradual lowering since the bolts are not all-thread. The 7" drop you 1" more than the stock when maxed out, and you can't bring it back up if you don't like the ride. With the 6", you can gradually bring it down and if you want more, you can cut the rear bolt bushings, up to 1/2" on both top and bottom.
Scroll down past the shock pictures you'll see some things about the rear lowering (and front)
