I understand these came standard on '01 and up Corvette's and are available for retrofit as well to the 97-00 models.
I like the idea of allowing the alternator to take full advantage of it's inertia developed at higher rpms without being forced to reduce speed if driven at a 1:1 engine rpm to alternator rpm ratio.
Any 97-00 owners here do the pulley changeover?
Any noticeable improvements in nvh, mpg, or performance?
If you're not sure what I'm referring to, here's a few links...
yes i think that's true - there was a tsb i read that was to fix pre '01 A4 corvettes complaining of nvh issues on the serpentine assy when turning in low speed parking lot type driving.
since it's not an issue on the 6 speeds, it's probably not used to then save costs.
I put one on mine about a year ago, can't really quantify any improvements in the NVH but in theory it should reduce belt stretch thus reduce slipping when driving a blower.
I was intimately involved in this action when doing field debugging before I retired.. Field complaints sparked this debugging issue based solely on the complaints of customers about experiencing belt squeal on A4 only C5 Corvettes when going from [P] Park to Drive.
The clutch was added in 2000 to A4's. At that Time, the build went from the French made Valeo to the Mexican version.

I changed mine on my 2000 about 4 years ago. I changed it as part of a witch hunt for the infamous low speed vibration when taking off and slowing down. Long story short, it was not cheap, I noticed absolutely no difference and still have the vibration.
I know, there's "other" causes for the vibration like the little springs at the exhaust attachment point, etc. Just have learned to put up with it as I don't have a lift to really find it. No big deal really.
