I initially thought one could merely dial in a comfortable temperature and let the computer handle everything else to make my C5 cabin cozy. Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!
If only the floorboard vents are used the system seems to be fine set at about 72 deg.
Any other setting using either the dash vents or the windshield vents (or both) I freeze my tail off at a settting of 72 deg and must crank the temp to 85 deg and cook my feet.:mad When the outside temp is 38 deg and rain/snow mix coming down the windshield definitely needs constant defrost so "floorboard vents only" will not work.
I understand that the dash vents are supposed to provide air at a "slightly cooler" temp than the floor vents but I find the temp difference to be far more dramatic than "slightly cooler".:cry :cry :cry The defroster vents seem to offer a little warmer air than the dash vents but they still deliver colder air than I want so the 85 deg setting is again needed.
Is my Climate Control system functioning as designed or is it malfunctioning?
Interesting! I just replaced my control unit with a used one from a 2001. I was noticing that I have to set the temp MUCH higher to get warm out of the dash vents.. guess I am seeing the same thing as you. My old '99 control unit seemed much better, a setting of 68-70 felt like 68-70!! GM HAS been monkeying with the programming (guess that's why there are different part numbers). My new controller does seem to work a little better in regards to the AC coming on all the time (when I don't want it on) and less debounce time on the fan switch. BTW mine and increasing numbers are having the display fade out in our original controller, that's why I replaced mine.
