I'm having a problem with my 2003 Coupe's ride I haven't figured out yet. It feels like a tire is out of balance and I feel a slight shimmy through the steering wheel.
I had all four tires road force balanced in an effort to get rid of it. The rears were spot on, the fronts needed a small balancing.
It's most noticeable around 55-60 mph and at interstate speeds.
Can front-end misalignment cause this? The car has 35000 miles on it and is still on the original shocks. Would replacing them help?
The tires are Nitto NT555s mounted on repro thin-spokes.
I would have the tire rod ends and ball joints checked first, if you have the alignment checked out they can tell you if those parts are bad. Good luck!!

This is true!
Also have them check the RACK for proper operation, I had this problem but I pulled my rack out last week to replace my balancer, it turned out to be the inner tire and not the rack for me.
The rack can go out and cause such as you describe. It could aslo be the hubs so have those checked out when you get the alignment.
Well, it's not alignment. The alignment was spot on. Ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. all checked OK. The tech drove the car and felt what I'm feeling. He thinks it's in the driveline, possibly the drive shaft. The dealership is contacting GM tech support Monday and will contact me about what to do next.
If you feel it in the steering wheel then it is in the frt suspension or steering. If you feel it in the seat of your pants then it is prob drivetrain or rear suspension.
