Default harbor freight trailer wiring problem

installed as follows according to eTrailer.com video instructions as well as several threads on here ...

spliced yellow, brown, white into like colors from left tail light.
ran green to right side and spliced into green from right tail light.

everything works except when I press the brake, left side trailer light goes bright and right side trailer light goes completely off.

any ideas?

Check the ground on the right side trailer light.

(I'm assuming you mean the if the taillight is on when you step on the brake,it goes out too)

Loose grounds do funny things.

yes, if the taillight is on, it goes out when I step on the brake. If it is not on, it lights when I apply the brake, but is dimmer than the left. I will check ground connections tonight. thinking maybe I should get a set of LED taillights.

i sanded down the connection at the trailer tongue and used a ring connector, and ran a ground on the car side to a ground connection on the car's frame. cleaned that one also. I previously had spliced in the ground from the trailer into the black ground at a left tail light. I still have the same problem. I will try it attached to my truck tomorrow. I just have to pick up an adapter for the 7-pin on my truck to connect to the 4 pin on the trailer. that'll tell me if it's the trailer's harness or the car.

It's a bad ground. When ground is unavailabe current flows through both filaments to reach ground.

well it's not the car side of the equation. Same thing when connected to my truck. it's either a bulb or ground on the trailer. I went over the ground wire .. I think I will pick up a bulb and replace it and go from there.
