Has anyone purchased the "C5 Lift Plates" that Mid-America and Eklers advertises (see the below link)?
I already have the lifting pucks made by CAU...but the C5 Lift Plates can supposedly be left in place permanently.
If so, what do they look like in place (are they pretty much flush with the rocker panel...that is, not too noticeable from the side)? Can they be removed easily? Looks like they will snap in easily, but then they look it could be difficult to remove once they're snapped in place.
I've seen the "rocker rails" but they seem like a lot of work to put in, drilling them in (some posters have stated that they've stripped the securing screws just trying to get the rocker rails installed). The C5 Lift Plates look like they're easier to install and serve the same purpose. Any comments? http://www.madvet.com/products/produ...xclusives.html
Rocker Rails are easy to put in. I did it in my garage in a half hour with a jack. The screws are self-tapping so you just need to screw them in slowly to let them tap the holes properly.
As far as functionality - the two are not the same. You can jack the car using the rocker rails but the lift plates won't protect your rocker panels if you bottom them out. The rails saved my rocker panel big time a couple of months ago when I bottomed out on a slab of concrete coming out of a parking lot.
Patches, understand that the rocker rails will also protect from bottoming out...but I'm more concerned about the dealership causing "more" damage to my rocker panels. I already have a couple of very small cracks underneath one of my panels (car has only been on the lift twice...once just before delivery and the second time when I had them re-align my exhaust tips). I noticed the cracks when I changed the oil for the first time. I do have the CAU jacking pucks and when I showed them to the tech recently he said that was the first time he ever saw...and when I asked him about the lifting pads that GM supposedly provides to the dealers, he looked and me and said - "What pads?" (note: this guy has been my Vette Tech for the past 7 years ...when I had my C4). He said he tries to be as careful as possible in lifting the C5.
Dale Red 98...would you please see how easy it is to insert those "plates" (and how easy they are to remove)...but also how do they look while in place. I would prefer to just leave them in and not have to worry about my tech remembering to use the jacking pucks I bought from CAU. Thanks!
