last night I went to the drag strip to make a few passes. It was pretty warm so I tried to keep it off as much as possible. I pulled into the staging lanes killed the engine with the key and coasted about 50 yards then stopped. About 5 mins later I started the engine and proceded to pull the the water box area for my pass. Every time I gave it gas it would die. I got the pull key wait 10 seconds. I rolled backwards and out of the way and waited a minute then tryed to start it again and it ran great!!!
Was this some sort of anti theft protection????????
due to the coasting and steering with the engine off???
thanks
Try cleaning the chip on the key with rubbing alcohol and see if that helps. Also, is your battery on it's last leg, a weak battery will sometimes cause this message.
And to answer your question--Yes, the chip must be read correctly or the Security System will activate the fuel shutoff function.
yeah, clean the chip on the key and you can also spray some contact cleaner down in the key hole i think. mine used to do this (actually did it right after i bought it and was sitting in the airport after the seller had drove off lol.. now THAT was fun) and i'd slide the key in and out 4 or 5 times and then it would usually be fine after that for a little while.
I don't think it's the key- it's the steering column lock issue. You need a CLB. Read the post about steering column lock at the top of the page in the 'sticky' area. Basically, your computer thinks your steering wheel is locked (means your car has had a recall done in the past). The GM fix was to change the computer so when the steering is locked, the car can't go more than 2mph. A $50 part will fix it.
it also seems to help if you turn the key to position 2 then pause then slowly start the car. It seems on my car when I key in fast and crank it I am more likely to get the pull 10sec

And also doing quick "start" and "stop" ignition cycles seem to cause this issue as well.
