I just started getting the Check Engine light a couple days ago. DIC shows PO803HC 1-4 Upshift Solenoid Control Circuit Manual Trans.
I clear the code and the light goes off for awhile. Today I found that if I avoid 1st gear and start out in second, the light will not come back on. As soon as I put it in 1st again, CE appears. I do have the CAGs bypass and occassionally see the 1-4 skip shift light, but it does not force me to go into 4th. I hit 2nd and the light goes out. Any ideas? Anyone ever experienced this?
Let me say that the by-pass resistor does not last forever. I have replaced mine 3 times. I get the same code that you get with the CEL and I know exactly what I have to do to fix it. ~ Replace the bypass resistor. After the second one I stopped buying the complete kit from vendors and just got a pack of resistors from Radio Shack and soldered one in place of the burned out one - you only have to dig out the black insulating goo in the terminal to get to it. And as a matter of fact the resistor I put in from Radio Shack has already outlasted the other two put together. The whole pack is only like a buck or two.
