I have a battery tender jr on my vette and use it if the car is parked for more then two weeks. I travel alot for work & don't want to come home to a dead battery. Yesterday a friend told me that I should remove the tender when I'm driving the car. He said that I charge from the battery could go back to the tender & destroy it. Does anyone know if this is true? I searched the batterytender.com and did not find an answer.
Thanks
Jim
So, you have the BATTERY TENDER JR. (@ .75amp) permanently wired/mounted in the engine compartment?
I think the question should be addressed to the techs at BATTERY TENDER/DELTRON CORP. for the best answer.
Personally, I don't think it will harm it. The BATTERY TENDER chargers (and CTEK) have pretty sophisticated electronics to protect against voltage spikes, accidental reverse polarity, etc. I doubt that the battery/alternator could harm the unit. I'd bet there's diodes to insure the voltage goes in only one direction (I think that's how diodes work?).
But, confirm with the manufacturer.

Called Deltron today. Told me I could leave the BT hooked up to the battery all the time. The unit has a buildin protection for reverse polarity. just like hotwheels57 said.
