HUMMING fuel tank

my fuel sending units on my 99 vette are making a humming sound is this a sign of them going bad? or just a noise I have to live with

It's the fuel pump, C5's have noisey fuel pumps. Normal from what I've been told. My 2000 FRC does it too.

Only the left pump is powered, the right is a siphon pump. I've never had a fuel injected car, that did not have some sort of "hum" or whine....especially when the fuel level gets low.

It depends on how loud they are. Most of the cars have a slight background humming when the ignition is switched on. If the pump has recently gotten a bunch louder that is another thing all together. Greatly increased noise is usually a signal that one of the pumps is starting to fail.
