there is a post out there somewhere by someone who fixed their power seat by repairing the SCM. they needed to resolder the pins on for the relays because they had worked themselves loose. the result is when you push a control to move the seat it will move for a while then stop, if you reelase the switch then push it again the seat keeps moving. looks like its due to a loose connection on the board. this same problem also messes with the memory seats, they can't move back to where they should be because the seat stops moving before it gets there.
I have the SCM apart now and to the naked eye all the solder joints look good. I'm going to try to melt and allow the solder to rebond, but I wanted to check out that post so I could see exactly which pins the other owner needed to repair. several searches did nothing for me. wish I had saved it before...anyone know where that post is? it had pics in it.
well I reinforced the solder on all of the large pins below the relays and the large pins on the relay input/output connectors. I haven't all the seat functions appear to work but only time will tell if the commanded input from the seat controls or memory system will continue to drop out as they did before. the board looked clean with no signs of problems, the connections I re-soldered looked good too but I did them anyway for good measure. it was really easy since they were already bonded in place, I added some solder to the pool and allowed it to bond. we'll see what affect it gives. I got a few pics if it turns out to have fixed the problem I'll post them up. its easy to tell which ones I worked on since they are a flat finish whereas the factory ones are smooth as glass. the board was no doubt soldered by machine to begin with.
wow. that fix appears to have worked! at least so far. the seat now moves per the SCM's command when I hit the memory seat buttons to the fullest extent that it was programmed without any issues. its too soon to tell if its really fixed because when I replaced the seat track that fixed this problem also for about a week (coincidence I'm sure) so I'll keep an eye on it and see how well it keeps working. but so far it looks really good.
I just resoldered the solder joins on all the larger pins under the 3 relays on the board. we'll see, so far so good.
