Default C6 shift **** on C5 oem shaft

Can I mount a C6 shift **** to a shortened C5 oem shaft? How to slightly shorten the shaft and do I have to do anything special to allow it to fit the C6 ****? thanks

The C5/Z06 shifter has 9/16"-18 threads. The C6/Z06 **** is a press fit as the lever has no threads, it has flats. The C6/Z06 **** is secured with an ear at the bottom of the **** through which a fastener threads into the side of the lever.

If you good at DIY, anything is possible.

But a better option might be to just buy a complete C6/Z06 shifter assembly which would come with the ergonomic C6/Z06 ****. You can then either modify your oem boot or purchase a custom boot. The best source is GMPARTSHOUSE owned by member Gene Culley. Expect to pay about $200 brand new, less if you find one used.

Or find the seller on EBAY who sells modified C6/Z06 ***** which will thread onto your C5/Z06 shifter. Expect to pay about half the price of the brand new shifter assembly though.

FWIW, all of the shifter assemblies from '97 to current are basically the same construction with stamped steel and rubber isolation. The difference is in the lever and the shape of the ****.

Just buy and Install the C6 shifter. It's great and the **** fits my hand perfect. I bought mine from GM Parts House.

Is the C6 shifter better mechanically? Does it have a shorter throw? What are its real advantages? I am looking for a C6 **** and a little less height for that ****. If using an entire C6 shift assembly accomplishes that and has better mechanical performance than a properly working C5 unit, I could go that route.

As I said above, the shifters from '97 to present are all essentially the same except for the levers and ***** (and manner of attachment).

The advantage the C6/Z06 shifters have is the bent rearward lever which provides the user with a different sense of leverage. And because the lever is bent rearward, the shifter lever appears shorter. The **** also sits lower onto the lever. That looks better than the tall straight C5/Z06 lever and square ****. You still have the advantage of oem with easy shifting and vibration/noise reduction into the cabin.

In C5 Tech, use search or search this forum (in the red banner). Use keywords "c6 z06 shifter" or similar and do your research. Many past threads have images of the C6/Z06 shifter in comparison to the C5/Z06 shifter. And you should be able to find images of the completed installation.

Here's just one...
