Default power seat problem

just fishing to see if there's something simple that i'm overlooking since i learn new and unusual things about these cars almost daily.
the pass. seat has forward/backward and front of seat tilt up/down functioning normally. the rear tilt up/down does not work but i can hear a click when i move the switch. i can't tell if it's just the switch mechanism itself clicking or if it's a relay down there which would eliminate the switch as a possible cause. any tricks? seperate fuse for each function or something equally as simple?

They use the same lousy relays for the seats that they use for the door locks. If it were me, I would replace all of the relays on the seat control board. Let me know if I can help you with that.

post specs on what type of relays to get?

I tried reinforcing the solder on the relays because I've heard that fixed at least one other owner's car...fixed mine for 2 days now its back to its old trick.

when I bought my C5 the rear up/down adjuster did not work at all. if you can hear the clicking sounds like the relay is working. with mine it was because the linkage was physically broken. I had to replace the seat track ($550 from Gene) I was able to fix it temporarily by sticking a bolt through the two pieces. the linkage is made of plastic and it broke.

do you use the easy entry feature? GM blew the design on this seat. if you use the easy entry feature the seat will dig into the carpet when it moves to the rear position and eventually break the adjuster. that's what happened to mine. I've got the rips in the carpet to prove it. the problem is when using easy entry it doesn't raise the seat as it moves it back, it allows it to stay all the way down just moving straight back. I use the preset #2 for my get out position which goes all the way back and all the way up.

move your seat all the way forward while you aren't in it (pull the lever at the top of the seat up first and tilt the seat all the way forward. you should be able to see under the seat from behind. look for the rear adjuster. its a beige colored plastic thing. if its broken there's your problem.

here's a pic. as you can see its broken. this connects to the metal arm on the metal rod. I stuck a bolt through that metal part and the remains of the plastic adjuster and the rear adjuster worked...sorta. it worked well enough there was just alot of play in it (like hit the button and it takes 5 seconds of listening to the motor before the seat begins to move) if yours is like this that can get you going for now, but you'll have to replace to fix it.

for some reason the replacement seat track had black pieces in this place. just a newer version I guess. they are still plastic.

its not a good pic of it, but you can also see the damage to the carpet caused by that arm digging into it due to the previous owner using the easy entry feature.

here's another good pic which shows the arms and you can see how they were supposed to be connected. I never found the missing piece of the plastic linkage. must have been long gone.

and sorry for all the posts...but here's a pic of my temp solution. this worked pretty well, but obviously it was only a matter of time before that broke also. so a replacement track was in order.

that's the part i'm not sure of. i get a click but i can't determine if it's just the switch or the relay clicking. some switches are silent, some click. i haven't been able to isolate it well enough to tell. are all the relays under the seat? i assume the 'bag' i feel under there is for the lumbar etc. adjustment stuff.

i see what you've got going on there. i don't think that's my problem. in that situation you would hear the motor run but the seat wouldn't move, right?
it's my passenger seat, but i'm going to check that location on the driver side because i do use the easy entry feature. i did check the wiring harness to make sure it was clear with all that moving back and forth but never thought of this interference. thanks.

The relays are in a small black plastic box that is mounted under the seat. You will have to remove the seat to get it out. This is the link for the relay. http://search.digikey.com/scripts/Dk...me=255-1240-ND
Can you get someone to operate the seat and you stick your head under the seat and see if you can hear it click? The relays are difficult to get out and be careful you don't damage the board. PM me if you need help with that.

Sorry about that, it had been abbreviated. This one will work.
