I have a 1998 C5 with A/T at 23.000 miles on it. It shifts perfectly up (1-2-3-4) and down (4-3-2-1) during normal drive. However, when I kick down at 4th or 3rd gears around 1.500 rpms, it directly jumps to 2nd or 1st gears, increasing suddenly the rpm up to 4000-4500. What would be the problem. I appreciate your comments and advises. Thanks.
when you jump on it are you putting the peddle to the floor? Try modifying your driving. Use a quick 1/2 throttle instead of a "floor it" style. This seems to give you that 1 gear down shift and that quick acceleration without dropping into 1st. It may take some practice and restraint but I find it works rather well.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give a try tomorrow and inform you about the result. But I am afraid there is something wrong with selecting the right speed/gear combination. This only happens on kick downs.

Agree. Sounds like your car is doing what it is supposed to do.
