Default Cartek Heads/Cam Installed... WOW!!!

Yesterday, I picked up my car after having Cartek's Stage II LS1 heads/cam setup installed... and words cannot descripe how awesome this car is now. It truly changes the entire demenor of the car. What was previously a fast, civilized car, is now an evil screaming beast! :reddevil Forget going WOT in 1st or 2nd gear without slowly rolling into the throttle, the car breaks loose and gets sideways quick. I don't think I'd have the guts to drive the car without being in at least competition mode. This car just pins you to the seat all the way to it's new 6800rpm redline. And the sound is unbelievable. Much louder, and a much racier exhaust note. Over 6k rpms it sounds like a pure race car. The closest sound I can think to descripe it would be Steve McQueen's Mustang in the movie Bullet, very similar to that. I LOVE IT!!! :D I should note that this is Cartek's original LS1 heads/cam setup that I bought used from forum member Stealth_C5... thanks Mike! The car made 391.6rwhp and 380.6rwtq. I'm happy with the numbers, this is a pretty mild cam setup, and those numbers are right on for this package. I'm hoping for 400rwhp after having a Borla Stinger exhaust installed in a week or so. I am going to re-dyno after the Borla install, so I'll be sure to post my results. I'll be testing it out next Saturday at Englishtown, hopefully I can get a few 11 second passes before being tossed! :D

Lasty, I would like to thank everybody at Cartek for the their awesome work and customer service. I dropped this car off 3/16, and it was finished on 3/21, two days ahead of when I was scheduled to pick up the car! And they didn't just take a used heads/cam setup and throw it in my car, they went over every single aspect and made sure it was as good as new... valve job, new valve springs, and they even did a tune up while it was apart! Thanks to Dave, Julio, Mike, Kevin, Roy, and anybody at Cartek that played a part in transforming my car into the streetable race car I've always wanted.

Billy,I'm glad you like my old set up,you've crossed the line now, there's no turning back, your car will become a bottomless money pit, start saving for a roll bar, better tires, gears, etc. When I'm ready to get rid of the 408 in a few years I will sell you that too, you'll want a stroker by then,it never ends.I wouldn't waste the money on the Borla exhaust, save it for the gears,I may be selling mine within the next two months,I've got some experimenting to do with the nitrous,it's not hooked up yet. With the 3.73's you should go 11.6 at 121 maybe even better,Good Luck with it,that set up never let me down and it handed out a lot of AZZ KICKINGS on the street and track.

Like that eh? ;)

I think you'll comfortably be in ROLL BAR territory. Enjoy the power of that beast! See you at the challenge...and good luck hooking on your current tires!

Actually what would be your opinion, doing this cartek heads/cams or a 100 shot of NX? I can't make up my mind!

I have been contemplating both of these also. I would like the benefits of h & c at low RPM and part throttle.

Also I dont want the hassle of filling the bottle all the time. But I am lazy.

Let me know what you decide

Lee

Congrats on your new found race car which also doubles as a street car. I have 5000 miles on my 11 second 98 C5 vert with Cartech stage II Heads and agressive "H" Cam & i have been all :D except for 2 recently broken springs which have been replace with 918 springs which our much more dubable than the 941s that I broke. Like most, I choose cartech b/c they put more C5 in the 11s on heads cam than any other tuner that i saw, and as you have attested to the Viper eating power is awesome! Like stealth C5 said, there is never an end in sight and whenever i have the extra $ I will gradutate to stoker LS1 with bigger cubes, since having a 10 second naturally aspirated streetable C5 is my longterm goal!

Congrats, be safe and have fun!

Thanks for the kind words everybody, I just got back from a long drive, and still cannot get over how fast my car is now. Getting on a highway onramp, taking second gear up to 6800rpm and banging 3rd is awesome! The other drivers I was "merging" in front of were just staring at the car as it SREAMED by... too f'n cool.

Stealth, I'm actually making a couple $$$ by getting the Borla, I can sell my Corsa's for more than the Borla Singer cost me. And... as you well know, a C5 can never be too loud! :D As for the gears, thanks for the offer, but I'm dead broke until at least the winter. At that point I may do 3.90 or 4.10s along with the Cartek clutch. Plus, cage comes before gears

Thanks Max, it was good meeting you yesterday. Oh yeah, traction control is not a bad thing, it's a good thing when you have 475hp and want to live to see 25! :D

JD, I think my 275 Nitto DRs will work pretty well with this setup. The power delivery is very smooth, there isn't one peak in the dyno graph, and should make the car fairly managable in the 1/4 with a nice long burnout.

c5 lee, I'd rather not post on the forum what I paid for the package, there were a lot of variable, used parts, etc. Email me privately and I'll give you the details. If you call Cartek, talk to Dave or Julio and get a quote on the X-Package parts only, LS6 heads, X-cam, and ported LS6 intake, I'm honestly not sure what the parts alone cost. I'd say you can expect between $1000 and $1500 for the install, and then try to find a shop that can dyno tune it, that'll be an additional $500 or so. Good luck!

NYtoCA, definately do heads/cam over nitrous if you can afford to. With heads/cam you always have that power and sound. With nitrous you only have the added power when you race, where as the heads/cam truly transforms you car into something completely different than it was before. You can get the same 1/4 times from both, but I'd rather enjoy the power and sound everytime I drive the car. Plus, you can always add nitrous to heads/cam later if you want, and have a 10 second car on the bottle. :yesnod: Good luck with whatevery you choose.

Moundir, I now have Nitto 285/35/18s in back, they hook pretty well on the street. I can't even imagine drivng this car with the runflats, would've been scary as hell.
