Help- check engine light
so i have heard that our cars can be tested by the gauges and it will tell you code of why you have a check engine light..... how do you do that.. can some one write step by step how to get the codes... thanks...

ok should i be worried or do any thing for these codes?
PCM-P0175H- fuel trim system rich bank 1
Pcm- P0172H- fuel trim system rich bank 2
SDM-U1301H-serial data line short to voltage
IPC- there is 7 of them but they all had the H at the end.... loss of communication to PCM,TCS,BCM,RFA,SDM,LDCM
RFA- same thing- Loss of communication IPC,BCM,PCM
All the codes that it sent were all followed by a H mean history right..... so im not sure why the light came on........ can anyone help maybe why the light came on or if i should be concerned bout any of the codes....
