Did some more surfing. It looks like the port for the air hose in the front fender to operate the air jacks. I'm curious now...... :yesnod: Pic thanks to lilred
I think it is a vent tube, the brake cooler inlet appears to be on top of the rear glass. It looks like it gets a ram air effect as the air passes over the top of the car. I am going to try and do this. I am surprised you don't see this on the existing production vettes. I am sure it provides a higher percentage cooling factor to the brakes then the rear side ducts that come stock on Z06s'.
It is definately not the fuel intake, there is one on each side, and there is no cover.
The fuel is still being inserted from the top.
Maybe a brake cooling intake?
Hey Now:
The no cover part, the fueling system is a dry brake system. At Road Atlanta, last year, in the garage, would fuel from both sides. Don't know if one is a overflow or has two seperate tanks.
I was curious about this too. I sent an email to Andy Pilgrim and here's his reply:
"They are the vent hole and fueling hole, both have to be open to fill the car, the car is full when the fuel comes out of the vent hole into the vent bottle. They are both sides of the car because we don't use the full fuel filler system during practice and you can have dump can on one side and the vent bottle on the other. During the race we have vent and fill hose in one, on one side of the car.
"Hope that helps
"Take care"
How cool is it that a C5R driver is willing to take the time to answer fan questions? Just another reason to support the C5R program and love the Corvette even more.
