Replacing Fuel Filter the ugly way
By way of background check out the thread at

The problem started when some of us were unable to remove the line from our fuel filter (line going to the fuel rail). Many forum members offered very good suggestions, it is just that mine and maybe some others have a major problem and did not respond to the "correct methods".
When I gave up on the proper way to do it I determined it was time to get ugly. In looking at the replacement filter I could see the spring clips
were held in by a "ridge" on lip of the fitting. So I popped the fuel line out of the holder toward the engine to give me some wiggle room. Then you can work
the filter around the brake lines and get it down to just above the exhaust pipe. Now you can get ugly. I took a side cutter and pinched the lip till i cut it. I tried to
bend up some metal, my plan was to work my way around the entire lip but I took a close look and decided I might be able to get an ice pick inside and pop the
spring out of the lip. Well that is what I did the filter fell off the line, leaving the spring in place on the line. Just for fun I put my tool on the line and tried to
remove the spring by it self. Still no go I had to pry up the tabs and slide it off.
In summery, I played around with the removal of the fuel line for a total of 4 hours over three days. I even put it all back together once and said F*** it, I don't need a new filter.
So if yours doesn't come off as advertised, save time and get ugly with it and move on to more important work.

Once removed, I am going to burn this thing. Since it's been infused with gasoline for the past decade, I have no doubt it will ignite easily.

Thanks for posting Jaybar!!
And congrats!!

While doing that, did you give any consideration of creating a spark around a GASOLINE filter??
And I had a fire extinguisher handy.
