Default Gray key in MAF plug – is it required.

I lost that little gray key that goes into the MAF sensor plug while I was installing my new blackwing today.

Is it just there to lock the plug on? Is it really required?

I drove the car after the install and it seemed to run better than ever. Not going WOT yet, still waiting for more break in, but it really seemed like the engine was much smoother and powerful even at sub 3000 rpm levels.

Like an idiot, I had it still connected to the plug when I bumped it and watched it fall into the deep dark crevices of that tight front end. I fished around for a while, but eventually gave up after taking apart several pieces of the front end. I also scratched a few of the joint areas while putting things back together. :mad It was a Royal PITA.

Yes and not particularly. It's there to keep the plug from accidentally getting disconnected, I think.

Personally, I'd just have the dealer get me a new one. I can't imagine it's a very expensive part to replace. For example, the Demon key(tm) that holds the shift **** in place is a little $.83 part. Or so my dealer says. :)

I managed to get my Blackwing installed today. Mod fever is givin' me the shakes. :jester
