Default Major help needed!!!

I have the HUD out of a C5[?] Corvette and I am having trouble making it turn on... What else do I need to do in order to make it turn on (other than putting +12v and ground to it)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bought the unit off of ebay used and slightly beat up. What I can't figure out is how to get the thing to turn on... Btw, no codes because it is just the HUD unit.

Sry man. I really don't know, there is one big gray connector on the back of the instrument cluster that I believe connects there. Someone will chime in soon that has done this conversion I'm sure.

Was your car originally equipped with a HUD or no?

Provide some more specifics...are you just trying to get it to turn on on a bench or installed in the car? Did you get the proper wiring harness if your car was not originally equipped?

I am trying to get it to work on the bench because I want to install it in my car (BMW). My dad's Corvette has one of these but I am pretty sure he will not let me near it to figure this out. I feel as though I am on the bleeding edge because I can't find anyone who has tried this before...

I am not intimate with the circuit design of the C5 HUD, however I am an electrical engineer and have a good understanding of how these things typically work.

The reason you have not found anyone who has done this before is the fact that it is going to take much more than just "powering it up" to make it work in another vehicle.

I would guess (without delving into the shop manuals) the HUD receives the information on speed, rpm, oil pressure, fuel level, etc. to display via computerized digital signals.

So, you will have to somehow re-create these signals in the target vehicle in order to make it work.

Do you or someone you know have the capability to do so?

Just as I suspected, PIN 5 is the line in which the data to display is received, and PINS 4 & 6 have to to with the signal timing.

Putting +12V on PIN 7 and 0V (ground) on PIN 8 will "power up" the HUD, but I would guess it will not display anything (or maybe mimimum values only) without sending the proper digital signals into PINS 4,5,6.

According to this (http://raptorperformance.com/Install...0Connector.gif) diagram, pin 1 is positive and pin 6 is ground...

I might have to reinvent the wheel on this one and make my own board to control the display, motor, and green back-light.

My b/f has a hole to the left of the iginition and I want to buy him the cover that is missing. It looks like it could have been an upgrade but never was one installed.

My guess is that there are two (or more) versions of the HUD, C5 and C6 perhaps?

That is true. The start up sequences are different between the C5 and C6 models.

About the cover thing, TRY USING GOOGLE AND GM PARTS DIRECT!!!

I'm going completely ape on this circuit board, I just need to know how the display works. My theory is that it is charliepixed (two pins equals one spot on the screen).
