Default Help! 'Sevice Strg Column' warning

My wife & I were heading to dinner last night and got the 'service strg column' warning. The column is not locked, just have the warning and car dies abouve 2 mph. I've read the sticky on this topic and thought that removing fuse # 23 would reset it, but no go.

It's a 2002 coupe, 6sp, no CLB installed. Was not aware there is a recall so don't believe it has been completed. But I'm third owner so don't know for sure.

Is there a way to get this thing running without a tow to the dealer? What a fantastic design! Not!

Odd side note on this. My colum does lock when I turn off the car. Does he recall remove the system or fix the fault? It's an 03 coupe

You absolutely have had 1 of the recalls done-you need to see if they installed a K harness, if they did, remove it and get a CLB.

You might get it going now by removing the K harness.

I'm back in business! A big 'thank-you' to 8vette7. You saved me some $$ and few restless nights.

I did have a K harness installed. I removed it, disconnected the battery for several minutes, started her up and no service message! My next move is to get a CLB ordered. Thanks to all.

I came across an article in a 2008 vette magazine this P.M. that mentioned two separate GM recalls. Per the article, the second recall (#04006C) called for the removal of the steering lock plate. Is there an easy way to tell if my 'plate' has been removed? And if it has been removed, do I still need to install the CLB? It's working fine now so I almost hate to do anything else to it. But I did order a CLB this A.M. ...so it's on the way.

Again ... many thanks for the very complete and thorough explanation. The wheel does not lock. Now that I think about it, I guess it never did. I ordered the CLB from Corvettes of Houston so will go ahead and install it when it arrives. I don't want to limp home at 2 mph.
