My wife & I were heading to dinner last night and got the 'service strg column' warning. The column is not locked, just have the warning. I've read the sticky on this topic and thought that removing fuse # 23 would reset it, but no go.
It's a 2002 coupe, 6sp, no CLB installed. Was not aware there is a recall so don't believe it has been completed. But I'm the third owner so don't know for sure.
Is there a way to get this thing running without a tow to the dealer? What a fantastic design!
The first thing I would try is to put your volt meter on the battery with the engine off and the key not in the ignition. The voltage should read ~12.66 If it's down around 12.01 or so VDC, this causes weird things to happen. This was the case for me, found out that my battery was the cause. Column lock never did lock up so I know the CLB is working. NEw battery = problem fixed for me
You need the CL bypass!!!.. This WILL HAPPEN again.. No doubt.. The CLB is around $50 and its so easy to install a caveman could do it.. The dealership WILL NOT fix the problem properly and charge you $$$$$ to do the half butt job!!.. Column lock bypass is the best mod you could do at this point.. Don't get stranded and have to pay for towing, because it will happen.. Words of Wisdom my friend ..been there and done it on 2 C5 Corvettes.. There are hundreds of posts on this subject.. The kits are readily available from most vendors or on ebay
