I am seriously considering a Blackwing air filter for my C5. I read earlier that the air/fuel mixture can be altered and horsepower lost. If this is the case who could check the mixture and what should it be. I live in Pennsylvania so emissions testing is a consideration. Thanx
Most places with a dyno have a wideband O2 sensor and could tell you what your A/F ratio is. I was told 12.5-12.7 is perfect but you will most likely be a little rich. I have a Blackwing and I definantly gained HP and my A/F ratio is at 12.5 but I'm sure my other mods affected that some also
Chassis dyno's will be able to check this for you while giving rwhp info.
FWIW I lost hp by running that rich, 14.7 is considered "perfect mixture", most run a little richer than that for safety, 13-13.5:1 gave me best power. 12:1 was best for carburated engines, to make sure NO cylinder ran too lean, as the mixture could vary widely from cylinder to clyinder.
If you have an 02 Z06 you will have an issue with the Blackwing without changing other variables. On the 01 Z06 it is worth about 10-11 rwhp. On a regular C5 it should make 14-16 more rwhp. If you sift through the archives you will find many many threads on the subject. Other considerations are what quality of gas do you have, driving styles, length of time you drive the vette at one time. You need a good hours driving time for the PCM to do a long term relearn. As far as emisions, it should not effect them. However, they will soon be testing your PCM as well, if they have not already started. If you have not had that altered, you should not have any problem
