Fan Set Points?
There's been a lot of discussion here regarding the "Correct" set points for enabling the fans. I'm at about 470 hp at the flywheel, whats the general consensus as to what the initial setpoints should be? What are factory numbers? Keeping in mind cooler NE weather, would 195/215 be too conservative? Your comments, as always are welcome and appreciated.

The stock settings are 222 over speed and 229 under speed for the first fan and 230 over speed and 239 under speed for the second fan. I put in a 160 t-stat and set both my fans to 160/160. :cheers:

You guys gotta realize that there is a temperature swing in any kind of fan thermostatic switch. Two reasons:1) Not possible to make an inexpensive device that controls within one degree; and 2.) Not efficient to have the fans cycling on and off several times a minute. My external Hayden fan controller thermostatic switch has a ten degree swing and comes on at 195 F and shuts off at 185 F. This is a good match for the engine coolant thermostat that runs around 178 F. If I had set the fan switch to come on at 185, it wouldn't shut off until the coolant reached 175 F. But the engine thermostat is trying to keep the coolant at 178 F, so the fan will not shut off. I do not know what kind of swing is built into the car's computer; it may be less than 10 deg. F. If you re-set the fan "on" temperature in the computer, make sure the fans go off when the coolant temperature comes down to the thermostat's set point. :yesnod:
