Default Opinions/Fix Coolant Sensor?

car over heated yesterday because S/belt fell off, of course sending the temperature 205* . Ok so fixed the belt issue see the tensioner needs to be changed. but the COOLANT LOW keeps showing on display. Opinions/Fix

did you lose coolant? 205 is NOT hot...you should be able to clear that light...unless the level is low that light shouldn't stay on...

I added 3/4 of coolant and the the display still said Coolant Low I hit the rest and took a short ride last nit to make sure there was no other damage and then it came back on

must have air in the system...the whole system holds around 2.5 gal....not sure exactly I just did a water pump swap and it took almost 2.5 gallons of coolant.

sounds to me like air in the system....you may have cycled it enough to allow you to add more now if it is low...what is it showing on the overflow tank?

think I made the mistake and added in the overflow tank. Isnt that where its suppose to go ? the tank is reading at the full level. Should I open the cap and run the car and see if it pushes a bubble though?

ahhhh.....thats different. I was wondering about that....

so did you lose coolant? Because unless there was a loss I can't see how it would read low unless the temp kills the sensor.

for a second opinion...

in the meantime what is the level reading in the overflow tank now...there is a Cold Full line on the side. I know these cars are real picky about coolant level

Only place to add it

You say Full....Full Hot or Full Cold...2 different things..

if you discover it is full and you want to try and cycle the air out of the system there is a procedure...let me see if I can find it

I'm going to check again later and see where the line is after letting "her" sit overnight. I'll let you know where she sits. thanks so much ... it may be time to ride her into the sunset and put her up for sale :-(

Just to point out the obvious. The sensor is in the overflow tank. If the overflow tank is showing the proper level then you've got a sensor problem.

The good news is a new tank should only run you about $60 and it comes with the new sensor.

so....I could remember back in the day when I was younger my dad opening up the cap letting the car run for some time then let it sit to move the bubble or push the antifreeze though his '67 200S mercedes. I tried it and for whatever reason the light and sensor went off.
Thanks for everyones help. Still going to try and sell it before the summers over for $15k

Many times when the coolant level goes low the sensor sticks, you may have just refloated it.
