I'd like to separate the cargo area from the passenger compartment in my '01. I've seen a couple "dividers" for sale, but I can't justify $100+ for something like that...
Has anyone here made their own? Alternatively, has anyone seen them for sale cheaper?
I usually build things like the divider for myself. However, I chose to buy one instead for my 2000 FRC. It has the flag emblem and fits and looks great! I wouldn`t spend the money, if you think you will get rid of the car in the near future. On the other hand, I plan to keep the FRC for many years. And no I haven`t seen them any cheaper since I bought mine.
Simply constructed of something like 1/2" plywood covered with black material and held in place with velcro. Person who made it put metal emblems on it and it looks just fine. Fits behind rear of seats and is useful when riding with the top down. In winter I just store it flat in the trunk.
Do the store bought dividers actually do any good on lessening the road noise with the top up on a convertible? I read an advertisement a few minutes ago about one and it said that it lowers the sound by 5 decibles, which is next to nothing. What say you?

Well, I'd say that's actually not bad.
According to a Decibel (Loudness) Comparison Chart, a difference of 5dB is classified as "Clearly Noticeable Change", as 10dB is roughly a doubling of the perceived volume.
I have looked at so many sites that I am not sure which was the one that said that their product cut the sound by 5 db. I have relooked and find that "Block It" claims that it reduces sound by 10 db. You might give them a look and see what you think of their product.

Thanks buggyman...
That's not the product I was inquiring about. I'm looking for the divider that separates the passenger compartment from the trunk area on a convertible.
I built one for myself this afternoon.
Used a 2 inch wide piece of styrofoam insulation from lowes. I put it back behind the lowered convertible top and I notice that my dimentions were significantly different than those posted earlier.
Only 48 inches across at the top not not a rounded top, just tapered edges

If you REALLY want to reduce noise level, you should install Dynamat or equivalent and Luxury Liner or equivalent on every floor and wall surface. I did this to my 99 and it made a HUGE difference.
Be advised that it will take 20+ hours and a couple hundred dollars but well worth it, IMHO.

Dam...just noticed how old this post is. Oh well....
Nope. Have a vert and it does absolutely nothing but keep things from slidding forward from the trunk. No noticable difference in road noise. Radio does not sound any better either. But it does look good when the trunk's open.
I have to say that I see a dramatic difference in sound with the top up. I am very happy. In all, the 8 foot styrofoam (that I cut with a serated bread knife) cost $18, the leather covering around $5 a yard and the spray-on glue about $7 (of which I used very little). I made a matching trunk lid insert using a thin piece of fiberboard and the same fabric and glue. it made a significant sound difference alone which really surpized me.
the trunk piece took longer, but I dont think I have over three hours in both pieces together.
If you are interested in seeing pics I will try to take some and upload.
