I have this 2001 Coupe. If I want to make any mods like 3.15 or 3.42 gear (might as well do a torque converter at the same time), lower my temp by turning on the fans early, put in a different cam, any of that stuff, I need a Programmer. I was told I had to reprogram if I put in a different differential by my dealer.
BUT, Hypertech doesn't make a programmer for the 2001 yet. I appears that LS1 Edit don't make one for the 2001 yet either, according to the link I just went to. And the TTS Powerloader, even if they do make one for the 2001, it would take MONTHS to get, and if I make any additional mods, I have to send it back to TTS and have them reprogram the TTS, and that can take 2-6 months, IF I ever get it back from them. It appears they just keep the TTS you paid for and never send it back.
SO, technically, it appears that I am screwed if I want to make any mods to my car at the moment.
Then, I find out I can't buy Drag Radials for these 18" wheels, and who knows when Nitto will come out with them (I did send an email). And someone posted that 17" wheels don't fit over the 2001 brake calipers, so changing my wheels is out of the question, and I would probably need a programmer to correct the speedo anyway.
Is all this accurate, or I am reading it wrong and missing the point?
Re: Wait a minute, so let me get this right? (Mike Mercury)
God I hope so. I'm itching to do some mods. I got beat by a Mustang, and am still sick about it. Guy was running slicks on the street, and was FAST.
Getting a GenX2 Nitrous system (all the bells and whistles) installed on Easter Sunday (sorry folks, I won't home this Easter). Still won't have any traction though, LOL. But I have to do something to make it faster that doesn't need a programmer.
Thanks for letting me know about the Hypertech. I am just waiting to give them my money.

Okay, so call me stupid (I am a newbie), but who is Ed Wright? And you mean, take the PCM out of my car and mail it to someone? How long would that take?
Unfortunately, since I switched dealerships (to one without demos), it now my daily driver.

Kurt, I just have to ask, why on earth would you buy a vette with the 2.73 gears......why anybody except grandma does this is beyond me.....don't mean to flame, but I'm curious.....was it one of those deals that you couldn't pass up???
Re: Wait a minute, so let me get this right? (WorldofOutlaws)
I believe Ed Wright is in Oklahoma or Texas. Yes you would have to pull your PCM and Fed Ex to him. I hear the turn around is about 4 days. Many people have used him and rave about the results. He can also take care of a lot of little things at the same time CAGS defeat and whatever else you want done. I believe it runs about $400-$500. I just reread your post and notice you have an A4..forget about the CAGS and ask for Torque Management removal.
Re: Wait a minute, so let me get this right? (PoBoy Racer)
LOL, I'm not offended. I'm asking myself that question every day. Here is the story.
I was working the dealership at the time. On Sept. 20th, 2001 GMAC came out with 0% financing for 60 months, even on 2001 Corvettes. There was only one (1) 2001 Corvette on the floor. They also let my buy it at GMS pricing, but didn't want to do it for a 2002. It was stretch to afford it anyway, so I just bought the 2001. GMS price was $37,101 plus 0% for 60 months. So, I believe it was pretty good deal.
Now, I'll also admit that I wouldn't have know the difference between a 2.73 or 3.15 rear at the time anyway. I'm a bit, not much, but a bit more educated now. This forum is really helping. But I figure the 2.73 rear at $37,101 is okay, even if do spend $1,000 on a rear end plus install. Still cheaper than what I would have had to pay for a 2002 and not be able to GMS.
I hope that makes me seem somewhat less daft in my purchase.
Re: Wait a minute, so let me get this right? (WWK888)
How in the heck is Ed Wright able to reprogram the 2001 and Hypertech and no one can?
I don't know about mailing my PCM. I would drive there if that was possible, but if Hypertech is really doing something this summer I might just wait for them.
I wonder if my dealership can use their equipment to do this sort of stuff?
Re: Wait a minute, so let me get this right? (WorldofOutlaws)
Kurt...check out http://WWW.FASTCHIP.COM and it may answer some of your questions. You could drive your car there and have no down time. Call Ed and discuss your situation and he will tell you what is possible with a reprogram. Good luck
I know some people with F bodies that had low gears just added a Yank 3500 and it made a world of difference...something to consider. Do the converter first then see if you still want the gears.
Re: Wait a minute, so let me get this right? (Skeeter1)
I'm pretty sure LS1 edit for 2001-2002 will be out soon. The website http://www.carputing.com/ says this summer, but I remember reading on the forum that several tuners (MTI...) already have the beta in house.
You should have many available options for reprogramming within the next month or two. Can you wait that long? I know mod fever progresses quickly.

why on earth would you buy a vette with the 2.73 gears......why anybody except grandma does this is beyond me.....
I was in the exact same position as Kurt -- I absolutely had to take advantage of the 0% financing for 60 months to be able to afford a Vette, and in order to qualify for the rates, it had to be a 2001 model. I also had a car that I needed to trade in on the Vette, so the deal had to be local to happen. Anyway, the Vette Net found me a local dealer willing to make me a deal (including my trade), and my new baby is perfect...except for its 2.73s. Luckily for me, my buddy upgraded his 3.15s to 3.42s, so I now have a set of 3.15s with barely 2000 miles on them sitting in my garage. I'm just waiting for the weather to get nice so I can install them!
Hey, let's face it...even with 2.73s, it's no slouch, and it's still a Corvette! I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
