I have a 98 C5 corvette. I was driving today and as I was accelerating the RPM's were going up but no movement. I down shifted to 2nd and it would drive. I put back in Drive as i slowed down and it would move but if I give it more gas the RPM's go up but no movement????

This is a really hard one....your 3\4 clutch pack is shot so you need to have the trans rebuilt or replaced.
i have a 1998 c5 with 124,000 miles same problem, the shop i brought it to suggested changing the solenoid for 3rd gear, flushing the fluid because there was no signs of metal shavings in the pan, however that cost was 660.00 and was not guaranteed to fix the problem, what is everyones opinion here?

So... You have an automatic right? If you run through the gears manually when you can get through 1 and 2 the car runs fine but when you shift into D the rpms will increase when you accelerate but your car will not get up to speed?
If that's your situation you need a tranny teardown and rebuild. If they are going to open it up anyway have them look to see if anything else is broken while they're in there... GL
