A4 tranny filter ?
I just did my A4 tranny filter and fluid change. The stock filter (tan) I pulled out had a oval tube that came down off the bottom of it. The AC Delco filter (black) I put in does not have this. I got the filter from ecklers.com and it is the correct one. My car is an A4 c5 coupe.

The extension on the tan filter is intended for use with a deep pan. It picks up the fluid from the formed depression at the bottom of the pan.
It sounds like you should be using the tan colored filter.

Yeah thats what I was wondering but I have a stock 2004 c5. I know the old lady that had it didnt do a deep sump pan because she didnt do anything to the car it was 100% stock. I do have the round circle in the pan but its not very deep. Did 2004's come with the deep sump I thought only the z06 had them stock.

Your stock 2004 steel pan is classified as being a deep pan because of the round "bump" on the bottom.
Z06's all came with a 6-speed manual transmission. None had auto. transmissions.
Make sure to use the filter with the molded extension on it, in your 2004 A4.

I would probably buy the correct filter locally, and not take the risk.

A4 Filter
I have the same situation. I went to Advance Auto and they have the correct filter with the baffle. It will be here in the morning. When I purchased the car the owner gave me this filter with no baffle. I was going to install but I checked the parts store first and found they had one with the baffle. Not worth the risk IMO so I bought it.

Well this sucks for me because I live in UK and have to order everything. I havnt bought another car yet since I have been so I am stuck driving it with the filter I have in it. I am going to order the other one today.

If I had to use it I would look at the drain hole in relationship to the bottom of the filter. You want the filter to be below the drain hole. I wouldn't take off real fast or brake hard either until you get the one with the baffle.
