Coolant is backing up into my resovoir so severely that it has blown the upper line completely out of the plastic insert. Any idea as to what could be causing this? Does not run hot while driving but as soon as I park it the coolant backs up into the resovoir, which begins boiling and blowing coolant everywhere. Too much coolant in the system? Coolant not circulating? The water pump has about 5K miles on it.
Does this happen while the car is idling or after you turn it off? Is the radiator fan working? The engine will heat soak after you turn it off and build pressure in the system, but not enough to blow hoses off. The radiator cap should release the pressure before that happens.
Radiator fan is working and the car is not over heating. It happens as soon as I shut it off.
About a month ago I got a message, "Low Coolant". I added coolant to the system but still have the message on start up. Could I have over filled the coolant level and now have way too much coolant in the system? I believe that coolant automatically drains to the resovoir when you shut the engine down. If there is already a high level in the resovoir the coolant would have no where to go on shut down. Am I on the right track?
You may have a bad or stuck level sensor. Normally I fill them to cross under the cap, warmed up, engine running. Over filling it could cause your problem, but as I said the extra coolent should go out the cap. Your cap may be bad as well.
