I have call 4 auto glass places in my town and 2 said I need a $400 mouldings plus the windshield the other two said it was just the windshield and a $20 filler moulding on the top. Who is right? I don't recall taking a moulding off when I removed the broken glass.
Sounds like they are talking about replacing all the windshield weatherstripping and/or the hardtop molding piece. I just had the windshield replaced on my 99 Hardtop with GM glass and it came with the urethane installation kit. They reused all my molding pieces.
Anyone have a picture and could point out what the reveal moulding, weather stripping and windshield retainers are? I sound like a complete noob, but sounds like there is more then one name for everything.
Actually, the reveal moldings and rubber window seals for the FRC are quite expensive and the reveal moldings can crack when they are removed. Some shops will only replace the windshield with new reveals. The reveal is installed under the metal retainer that holds the door window seal.
Hmmm... I just had my '01 coupe windshield replaced and they used the original molding. They said you only replace it if there is visible damage (which there was not). It cost me $289 out the door. What a difference having new glass to look through.

Thats pretty cheap for a windshield. GM wants 700 dollars for a factory windshield and 1700 for a HUD coated windshield. Where did you get that shield for 289 out the door in Pa? Was it blue tinted or gray tinted or was it not tinted at all generic.

I got it from the local auto glass place in town. I heard too many horror stories of places like Safelite.
It was green tinted with blue (darker tint) on top. I got a lot of quotes that were similar in price, and they all talked about similar color combo. My windshield, in the car, was a replacement already (non gm).
Interesting thread. It seems like it really matters what glass shop you go too. From most of the other posts I have read it seems like the couple molding should be installed. I need to look at my service manual and see what that says.
But why would you pay so much more for the GM glass? I could understand if you are looking to make your car a collectible in 30 years, but that is not the reality for my car. If it was uber low mileage special edition, or options car, maybe. But it isn't so GM glass holds no extra value to me. I doubt other than it saying GM is there any major difference. Good luck guys.
