I just ordered the Blackwing Donaldson Intake and the hood seal. This is my first add on MOD as my C5 is a complete stock car. Is that all I need to do for the intake upgrade and no type of concerns or adjustments needed besides driving habits........ I seen post about water getting inside the filter. Thanks
This is a typical intake setup, however, if you want you can always get the front screens (where the fog lamps are located). These screens allow the cold air to enter the engine compartment as you drive. In addition, you can cut your radiator shroud where the filter rests, this, with the screens, hood seal and Blackwing would give you the most air intake. But what you have now should be pretty efficient, too.
I have it on my 99 FRC, & just ordered it for my 01 Vert, I added the hood seal on my FRC & will do the same on my Vert, I've had no problems on the FRC, ( disconnected the battery ) & did the Idle relearn. I positively could tell the difference on the FRC !, that's why I ordered it for the Vert ! I haven't had any water issues, of course I don't drive in "deep" water! My Vettes do not say "Bayliner" or "Mercruiser" on them anywhere....
Idle relearn tells the system through the MAF sensor how much air flow is coming into the engine, disconnect the negative battery terminal while installing filter, re-connect, then take car out for an aggressive drive...the system will relearn the amount of air coming into the engine, there are several posts currently on this subject. I did his on my 99FRC w/out problems, I have no surging or spark knock ( more air means leaner condition) I'm sure a better explanation can be found on the Forum
Where do you find the idle relearn procedure with the information on pulling the proper fuse and other important information? I heard if you do this procedure the relearn will happen in a short distance instead of the longer relearn route. :yesnod:
The Blackwing is a great filter. I switched to it from another aftermarket intake system and the car felt much stronger and dynoed much higher. You don't need to disconnect the battery or do the idle relearn when installing it. It is not necessary the computer learns very quickly. I swapped my on and took it for a spin and could feel the difference right away. Also, my car is a daily driver and we get plenty of heavy rain here in Dallas and I've never had a problem.

Tom,
I did the exact same mods on my 2002 Convertible, and it worked great... I gained 4mph in the 1/4 and I shaved .4 seconds (though I attribute that to driver improvement... the times can get lower.
You may notice that the engine sounds "deeper" when you open up the throttle. The intake makes it sound more muscular and less "revvy". I had not realized how much the intake could change the tone of the engine...
I just added the Blackwing and hoodseal. I also added a Corsa Indy Exhaust. Before I installed the Blackwing I dyno'd
the car with the Corsa Exhaust. Max h.p. was 295 at rear wheels. Then I added the Blackwing. Tore out the MAF screen
(battery was disconnected), then drove on the freeway around St Louis at various speeds, (usually fast). I immediatey
noticed the pickup. I drove approximately 45 miles. I went back to the dyno where everyone was eagerly awaiting my returen. I
did 2 pulls. First pull went to 305. Second pull as 312!!! I was amazed. The wing not only gave a big jump in H.P., I
I didn't get any "surges" others have mentioned.
