Can anyone tell me what the differences are between the C5 convertible and the C5 Z06 suspension? I'm looking to put Z06 shocks and springs on my 98 Convertible...is it benificial?
Springs and sway bars are different. I have an 04 CE vert and recently installed the C5 Z06 springs ( heavier spring rate) along with C6 Z06 sway bars on both front and back. Unless you are going to run a wider front tire, you might not want the C6 Z06 sways ( C6 Z51 sways might be better). I have the F55 Magnetic Suspension currently on my car so I did not go with the C6 Z06 shocks. They would be a good addition to your 98 and are very reasonibly priced at $240 for all 4 shocks from Gene Culley at GMPartshouse.com I got my springs used from the Parts forum for about $200 shipped. Check the Parts forum but make certain they are the C5 Z06 springs. All the parts were bolt in, with no mods to make them fit/work.
I've got an '00 Vert that had base FE1 suspension.
Sways.....I installed the C6Z51 sway bars and wholey recommend them, really improves the ride quality. Definitely put the bars on "first" and drive the car before you do the shocks, the sways alone might be enough.
Shocks.....I installed 2004, C5Z06 shocks which seem to be pretty darn close to a race shock. Its flawlewss on the higgway at speed etc but a bit too stiff for my liking for around town daily driving.
I don't know if the C6Z06 would be less stiff than these but i will probably wind up swapping the '04, Z06 shock off and will install C6Z51 which I understand are a bit more forgiving.
