Default need opinions on tuning options

alright, a little history on the car. we got it from a guy who got it from the guy who built it. he only knew about some of the stuff done to the car. we got such a good deal on it that the mods were just a plus. it has a .600 lift cam, but don't know the rest of the specs. it supposedly has patriot heads, but haven't been able to confirm it yet. the internals are forged. he gave use the boxes for the rods and pistons, so i can only assume he wasn't lying. it also has long tubes, cat-back, and a cold air intake on it.

anyways, the car has never made the power that it should. my tuner tried to access the ecu with hp tuners, but it was previously tuned with efi live and is locked. i've been trying to find a good deal on efi live, but haven't had much luck. the only options are to use efi live or have a gm dealership set it back to stock and retune it with hp tuners. i didn't really want to have to start fresh.

anyway, i just bought a used a&a kit because it was a smoking deal. the main question here is should i try to get the car tuned better n/a before doing the supercharger? the supercharger is going to have to have bigger injectors and i can get a good base tune from a&a. i almost think it would be a waste of time to tune it n/a, then re-do everything once the supercharger is on it.

Take it somewhere verify the internal parts before slapping the S/C on there, and yes it would be a waste of time and money to tune it 2 times. Hope it turns out well...

Since you don't know what you have in the engine or just as important - the tune - except for a few details, e.g., forged internals, headers, CAI, etc. I have to ask, WHY wouldn't you want to return the tune to stock and have it retuned by a local professional with HP tuners??? This way you start with a fresh baseline and know the details of the new dyno and street tune from a reputable tuner. Personally, I would have the engine tuned first given the unknowns to ensure you have a good motor before making the investment of installing and tuning a S/C, but that's just me.

because everything is going to have to be changed regardless. the car doesn't run bad, but i know there's a lot that can be done to it.

i was getting ready to invest in a new efi live, but the deal on the supercharger popped up and i couldn't pass it up. my tuner isn't familiar with efi live and would prefer to use hp tuners. so everything has to start over from the beginning anyways. i just think it's a waste to do it twice
