Hate to open an old thread, but my 12 CD is not working in my just purchased 97. It loads fine but when I press the button on the radio it does nothing. CD's are loaded properly. The changer seats nicely and you can hear the discs load; Just nothing when I push the button on the dash. Could this still be an issue with the unit in the trunk or the radio itself? Not going to throw too much money at this with all the new tech out there now but it's nice to have everything working.
Thanks for any help.
When you say "nothing", besides no sound, you mean no visual indication at all that a CD is playing?
Can you confirm that your headunit is in fact controlling the multi CD changer? If you, let's say, give the command to play a different CD, if you go around to the trunk can you hear the changer unloading the previous CD and loading the new one?
Are you using store bought CDs or did you burn your own? After you push the CD/Aux button, wait a few seconds and try pushing button #5 on you're radio - that rotates to the next CD in the changer if I remember right (not near my car right now). Also, I know you said that you loaded it right but it is pretty common for people to load them upside down - might want to double check.

No indication, visually or otherwise when I push the CD Aux. Button.

These are store bought CD' s that work fine elsewhere. I loaded properly and checked it again. I will try hitting 5 after hitting CD aux, but it appears to not be communicating.

Well, without seeing you're system I would guess that there is a connection issue at the changer or head unit. Perhaps the previous owner tapped into the changer harness to support an auxiliary port somewhere. I would start troubleshooting this by checking the harness that connects to the changer first.

My 2000 is doing exactly the same thing. The changer in the trunk has power and sounds like it loads the disk but when I push the AUX button nothing happens, no message, nothing.
If I remove this piece of junk, can I tap power/shut down and ground off of this CD changer's wiring to run a small amp that will power on with a new head?
No, the wires are too small of gauge to run any size amplifiers power needs. Also, ever run an amplifier without a in-line fuse.
Same thing here however, if I load a disc improperly I will get the error msg so I assume their is communication between the remote and the head unit. Not something that I'm willing to throw money at. The unit is 20 years old.

1st, Welcome to the Corvette World.....this forum is a wealth of info from all who have "been there, done that!"
To your issue at hand; A lot of us had (key word) the 12-disk CD changer and have had problems with it. Yours is 10 years old and has been subject to all the wear and tear of being in a car environment with heat and vibrations for this period. You can spend a lot of time, energy and money with this thing.....OR....you can upgrade to better technology. This is what most of us are doing.
Why? Easy, Better, and cost effective!!
What I and many others have done is to bypass the 12 Disk CD player and use our MP3 players. This is easly done!!
I just installed the PIE GM10AUX adapter.....WORKS GREAT!!! If you are interested, PM me an e-mail address and I'll send you photos of my install with a breakdown of everything you will need. Simple install and not having to hassle with the 12-disk is priceless.
Take Care,

I am interested in what you did..thank you...any an all info appreciated..thank you. Norm
Please send me the info you mentioned on the PIE GM10AUX along with your step by step photos and instructions. I'm tired of messing with the 12CD changer Thanks for the help!

This is an old post. Did you get the instructions you were looking for? My changer has bit the dust and I'm ready to do something different also.

Great point. Even my in-dash CD player wont play home burned CDs. At least, wav file CDs. I honestly have not tried to play mp3 CDs, as they lack some of the musical quality of the wav CDs. I suspect C6s and newer cars can play either.

I’ve had a 2000 C5 since new, it only has 21K miles, been garaged since new. My CD changer just died. Would love to hear about this bypass option if it’s still a viable fix

This is a 11 year old thread. Do what I finally ended up doing and others did and buy a new head unit for your car and don’t look back. You will have a Library of Music at your Fingertips plus hands free calling the most important feature of all to update you C5. Yep hands free calling and Apple CarPlay updates mine through today and also updated the looks inside my C5.
