Default C6 shifter **** ?

Simple question guys. I just got my 01 Z06 and didn't realize it had a c6 shifter installed in it til I took a closer look. I just hated the shift **** that was on it

Anyways went ahead and ordered a new shift **** from Mid America. It says it fits C5's and all M6's. Not sure if it will fit the c6 though? Anyone know whether if the c6 and c5 ***** are interchangeable or no?

Will the mid america one work or do I need to send it back? Thanks for the help

Search is your friend (this answer would be EASY to find via the search feature).

Some folks might just leave you with the above, but I'll let you cheat and give you the answer: no, the C5 and C6 ***** are not interchangeable. Someone likely put a C6 shifter assembly into your car.

You will need to find an aftermarket C6 shift ****, or put a new shifter assembly into your car. I've heard the MGW short throw is good, and it comes with your choice of C5 or C6 style shift **** mounts.

I agree. If you have a GM C6 shifter, get a C6 shift ****. Threads are different between the C5 and C6.

The C6 shifter doesn't use threads. The **** slips on and then there is a screw on the side of the **** that holds it in place.

Are you certain you have a C6 shifter? The C6/Z06 oem shifters typically have a bent back lever as opposed to a straight lever on the C5/Z06 oem shifters. And a C5/Z06 oem **** (assumption) will not mount on a C6/Z06 shifter unless the latter has been modified by cutting 9/16-18" threads.

The square C5/Z06 oem **** is threaded for 9/16-18" and uses a "Demon key". Whereas the ergonomic C6/Z06 oem **** is press fit to a lever which has flats and an "ear" which secures a fastener to the lever.

The **** you ordered from MID AMERICA may fit either the C5 or C6 because it's a universal mounting design. Chances are it uses a small allen set screw. Some have luck with that design while others experience vibrations.

Clear images would help a lot...

Thanks for all the help guys. The shifter I've got the t-handle **** thats on there the screw is up front by the dash. I'll see if I can get a pic or tow and post it up. I got my MID America one today and its threaded to screw on I'll unscrew it tomorrow and see if the MID fits on there

Ok know I'm more confused than ever. This shifter I have is threaded and uses a set screw that faces the dash? I tried putting a c6 z06 **** obviously didn't work. I'm taking pics this weekend to figure it out. Any ideas?

"didn't realize it had a c6 shifter installed in it til I took a closer look. I just hated the shift **** that was on it"

What made you think it was a C6 shifter in the first place?

Sounds like someone screwed a Pep Boys "T" handle to a C5 shifter,if I'm following your description of what you've got.

If you did have a C6 shifter and C6 ****,I don't see how you could hate anything about it-it's a superior assembly in every way, compared to the stock C5 item.
