Well I am about to do an oil change and also want to change the tranny fluid and rearend gear oil, I've already bought the Mobil 1 for the engine and the trans, but can't find Mobil 1, Amsoil or Redline gear oil anywhere in town here.
The closest I can find is Quaker State full synthetic, which doesn't seem to have the limited slip additive in it. I use this in my truck with no issues, but would prefer something better and with the limited slip additive in it already.
So does any of the vendors sell online here? or for the Canadian guys, any recommendations on where to get a good oil?
Note that the Severe Gear 75w90 does come with friction modifier and C5s don't require additional modifier to prevent diff chatter. I run this fluid in my SCCA T1 02 Z06 which has a stock drivetrain and haven't ever lost a diff in something like 30+ races.
I put Amsoil in both transmission and differential several years ago. No problems. ATD made the transmission shift smoother. (M6) No chattering from the rear.
This is a DD with 73K on it.
The Quaker Synthetic will be fine as long as you ad the posi or limited slip additive. You can get the GM brand at your dealer, but the aftermarket ones at most auto parts stores are fine,
Add the 4 oz of slip additive first , then the gear oil
GM fluid works the best. I used the new part number 88862624 that includes the posi additive already. The chatter and chirps are gone and the LSD function is perfect. 2 quarts, but it's handy to have 3 because it's hard to squeeze in much more than half of a bottle (unless you use a pump or something).
Hi There,
Use the amsoil severe gear.Do a google to find your local dealer.Order the amsoil hand pump p/n g-2039 $ 11.76. A lot better than the squeeze type bottles & no mess. 2qts for the differential.(1.69 qts. capacity.
