Default "service column" message, quick question

quick question, my corvette sometimes gives me the "service column" message on the screen, but most of the time it doesn't give me the message and the car acts normal, under the hood it has a gm dealer sticker recall, but my question is if I can purchase the column lock bypass for it ? The car is a 99, six speed. Thanks. I will delete after it has been answered thanks.

The problem started occurring about a week ago, so on Friday I changed the battery to a brand new yellow top optima battery. It still gave me a service column message on Saturday the day after I installed the new battery, so I don't think it's the battery, but today it has not given me a message yet, but I haven't driven a lot. But thanks for the info, I will read the last 8 pages of the column lock thread, anyone else have any input ?

Yeah, I disconnected the old battery, went to autozone to pick up the new battery, so it was disconnected for longer than 10 minutes. I will go ahead and pull the DTC's to see If I can clear them, my question is, can I just order a column lock bypass and install it ? Since I already tried replacing the battery, but that wasn't the problem.

Its a good idea to remove the K harness all together and throw it in the garbage. In my situation it was the K harness causing the messages.

You must also remove all the attempted GM fixes that may be installed.
With no key in the ignition it will lock, however after I insert the key in start position it does unlock. Also, I went into the DIC, and checked to see if any codes were showing, but it said "no codes." I have one more question, the two times it has shown me the message about the "service column" the car was sitting in the sun, does that have anything to do with it. Maybe the heat causes it to lock.
