Last week I sucked a plastic bag up into the engine compartment on the interstate and it locked up the smaller electric fan and now it will not work. I take it that since the large fan is working that the relay is still good and that I need to replace the fan motor. Any tips for removing and replacing the fan motor?

Large fan? Do you have aftermarket fans of some sort? There are 3 relays in the stock system, and 3 fuses.

my car is an '02 and it has two fans mounted in the shroud. I looked on a diagram and it looks the same. The smaller one is on the drivers side and looks to be a real pain to get to and the larger one is fairly open. Naturally I need to replace the smaller one. lol

Ok. Something must have changed that I'm not aware of.....I was under the impression that the fans were identical..
In any case, I hope you have checked all fuses, and 12volts/ground to the fan connectors.
You have to remove the air cleaner, the radiator support, 2 bolts on each side, the upper hose and the electrical connectors. I think there are some wires underneath you have to get to. Then pull the fan shroud out the top.

When I swapped out the stock fans for an aftermarket set-up, it took about 20 minutes to remove the old fans.
In addition to the above, I also drained some of the coolant out so I wouldn't get any spillage when removing the upper radiator hose.
