Default Rear Suspension Adjustment Link Replacement Help

Hey Guys,

Does anyone have a procedure for a rear suspension adjustment link (looks like a tie rod). I just got quoted $600 to do both sides with an alignment and think I'll probably do it myself instead. The file that has my electronic service manual is it went corrupt recently... Thanks in advance.

What "procedure" do you mean? Aligning the car? I would just get it done professionally unless you have the correct tools and experience.

If you're just replacing the tie rod, is it the entire thing you want to replace or just the end? It's literally as easy as "Remove old, install new". There is one nut on the tie rod end (18mm I believe), and you might need a pickle fork or other tie rod end removal tool to separate it (or it might just take a whack from a rubber mallet). Unscrew the end, replace with new one (to approximate length as the old) and then go get it aligned.

If you bent the tie rod or something and you need to replace the whole thing, the rod itself is held on with one nut (18 or 21mm if I remember), which is fairly easily accessed from behind the differential with a series of u-joints and extensions.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for (except I was hoping for the torque specs on the bolts.) I need to replace the end and I just wanted to make sure it was as easy as it looked. I was just in there to replace a bad wheel bearing/hub assembly the other day and noticed it.

BTW: I did a clutch swap on jack-stands two weeks ago and used your writeup as a guide. You saved me a S**T-load of time with that. I owe you a beer if you're ever in the area.

Hey no problem, I've used dozens of user-provided guides over the years, I figured the least I could do is provide one of my own. Sorry about not having torque specs, I could look it up once I get home (I have old-fashioned service manuals in dead tree form). Send me a PM if you need it - I'll forget otherwise.
