Default Tranni was stuck in 4th

My tranni got stuck in fourth. Ive search the forum and other sites and come up with, synchro's, bent shifter fork, just change the fluid, clutch adjustment, etc... I managed to get it into neutral, but only had fourth. So I drove it home (I know ouch). As I arrived home, I could get more gears. I now have 1,2,5,6 and reverse. (in the garage) I plan on taking it for a ride tonight to see. I do drag race my Vette, but it is mostly stock except for cold air and Diablo tune. (runs 12.7 @ 112 mph). Is this just a fluke, or am I in need of a rebuild, or buy a better tranni? Anybody drag racing have this problem? Any help would be much appreciated. I hate spending money for nothing. Thank Kevin.

PS: Forgot to mention, that now when the car is in neutral, it sounds like a shaft is turning. Ive put the car in 1st, clutch in and revved it to 5000rpm, and the car does not move.

Well it sounds as though your clutch is fine.
I'd start at the easiest point, that being the shifter. Use the search button in regards to shifter install,inspection/allignment, etc.

Good luck.

You have a broken 3-4 synchro key/keys. Unfortunately, the trans has to be opened up to repair it.

I bet you sheared the roll pin on the shift linkage, after the fix you might want to invest in a shifter with positive stops.

This just happened to me....let me know what you find out. I'm planning on getting a new tranny unless you find a problem that isn't internal. My car started to grind on the 4-3 shift after that happened to me. .

If he sheared the roll pin, he would not have ANY gears.

Thanks for the info. I figured it would need to be removed. I was just hoping for that miracle fix. Looks like its time to upgrade the tranni, clutch and diff. Any ideas of time to R&R tranni, diff and clutch?

If you have the patients and the time, you can do it yourself. If you have a shop do it, they would bill you out around 10 hours for the clutch job. Either way, good luck and PM me if you need assistance doing the R&R.
