Hey guys so I went to do a top clean this morning and noticed that pcv valve pipe going to the intake is snapped in half!
anyways, before I head out to buy a new one... is this even needed? I was told that its really just for emissions reasons and can probably swap it out for a piece of straight hose and then also install an oil catch can
Yeah, its sort of needed unless you wish to see oil spray all over everything. The dealer will sell you to entire hose assembly which wraps around the back of the intake and so on and yes, it does include a new pcv valve too. Last I looked, it was like $99 but would guess its higher now.

well here's what I did... I took out the broken valve and bought about a foot of hose that I connected to one end where the PCV valve was and the other end all the way to where it entered the front of the intake manifold. Wouldn't this work?

It would but don't forget there are two vents, one on each valve cover, so at some point you would need to tie them in together.
